John Mastroianni
A Little About John:
John has been performing professionally since the age of fifteen, building a dynamic career as a saxophonist, woodwind doubler, composer, and arranger. A graduate of the University of Bridgeport and New York University, he has studied with jazz legends including Phil Woods, Dick Oatts, Joe Lovano, and Jim McNeely.
John has performed, toured, and/or recorded with some of the biggest names in music—from the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and Smokey Robinson to Tony Bennett and Aretha Franklin—and has appeared with major symphonies and on Broadway. In addition to leading his own quartet and sixteen-piece jazz orchestra, he is an award-winning educator and Assistant Professor in Residence of Jazz Studies at the University of Connecticut, as well as a two-time GRAMMY-nominated music educator. John is the 2014 CT Teacher of the Year.
